Earthquakes often occur in volcanic regions and are caused by tectonic plates and the movement in the volcano chamber. When the tectonic plates are heated, it will want to explode. An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy that creates seismic waves. Violent shaking of the ground, typically causing great destruction, as a result of movements within the earth's crust or volcanic action.
